Size Guide
Our Approach To Fit
At Silk & Plum, we design with intention — but we don’t believe in one “perfect” fit. Bodies are nuanced, fabrics behave differently, and how you like your clothes to feel matters just as much as measurements.
We also don’t promise that you will look exactly like the models you see on our site. Our founder doesn’t either, and that’s intentional. Silk & Plum is made for the woman who already knows: who is content in her own skin and dresses to express herself, not to mirror someone else.
Off-the-rack garments are designed using general measurements, and while we strive for balance and consistency, they will never fit like bespoke. For this reason, we genuinely recommend alterations where needed. A small adjustment can often make all the difference, and is part of making a piece truly your own.
This size guide is here to offer clarity, not rules. For the most accurate fit, always refer to the individual size chart on each product page, as measurements may vary by design.
1. How to Read our Product Page Sizing Notes
On each product page, you’ll find information to help you understand how a piece fits and feels on the body, including:
- Fabric composition and care
- Fit (Regular, Runs Smaller, or Oversized)
- Stretch level
- Fit notes and sizing recommendations
- Model reference and measurements
Fit and stretch describe how the garment behaves when worn, while the size chart reflects the garment’s actual measurements. We recommend reading both together before selecting your size.
2. Our Fit Categories
- Regular Fit: Designed to follow the body with ease. Skims rather than clings and allows for comfortable movement.
If you are between sizes, choose based on how fitted or relaxed you prefer your clothes. - Runs Smaller: Cut closer to the body with less ease through areas such as the bust, waist, or hips.
If you prefer comfort, layering, or a slightly looser fit, consider sizing up. - Oversized / Relaxed: Intentionally cut looser for ease, movement, and drape.
Designed to be worn relaxed; size down only if you prefer a neater silhouette.
3. General Size Reference
The table below offers a general sizing reference based on our overall fit review across collections.
Because fabric, cut, and drape vary by design, these measurements are intended as guidance only and should not replace the size chart on each product page.
Notes:
- Our waist measurements are intentionally 1–2 inches larger than typical standard sizing. This is to accommodate the natural changes in a woman’s body — even at a size S, it’s common to carry softness or fullness around the midsection, especially over time. We design with real bodies in mind; however, as ready-to-wear garments are based on general measurements, we strongly recommend minor alterations for the most precise fit.
- For general sizing, please refer to the Regular Bust measurement as your starting point. Keep a lookout on specific fit notes (Regular, Runs Small, Slightly Oversized/ Oversized), so ensure you review those before purchasing.
4. Fabric Behaviour & Stretch
Fabric plays an important role in fit. Natural fibres such as silk, cashmere, wool, and linen behave differently depending on weave, weight, and construction.
Some pieces will soften or relax slightly with wear, while others are designed to hold their structure. As a result, fit may feel different across styles — even within the same size.
This variation is part of the character of the materials we work with.
5. Height, Proportions & Alterations
Our pieces are generally designed with an average height of 5’4” and above in mind. That said, proportion matters just as much as height — and no two bodies are the same.
We recommend alterations where needed. Our founder has tailored her clothes for years and believes that small adjustments are not a compromise, but a way to make a piece truly your own.
6. A Final Note on Sizing
While we strive for consistency, fit is influenced by body shape, fabric behaviour, and personal preference. We encourage approaching sizing as a guide — not a promise.
